Nottingham Cellars is focused on and dedicated to the pursuit of capturing Cabernet Sauvignon and its accompanying Bordeaux red varieties with a focus on showcasing single vineyards site specifics. We source grapes from VINEYARDS with varying growing conditions, all of which are owned and farmed by people with similar goals in mind. We seek to build a TEAM as dedicated to quality and hospitality as we are and challenge ourselves daily to bring joy through wine to all.
In 2009 The Cranor family started its journey in the wine industry in the LIVERMORE VALLEY . Since day 1 our goal has been to produce world class Cabernet Sauvignon and find sustainable winegrowers to partner with that had the same visions of quality as us. We have always advocated for the unrecognized potential of this region. At the core, the Livermore Valley has the nuts and bolts to grow wines as good as anywhere in the world.
In 2019, after a decade of focusing purely on the world class vineyards in our home AVA, we decided to branch out and explore some of the most amazing Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the NAPA VALLEY from the famed regions of Atlas Peak, St Helena and Rutherford. Making these wines side by side was an eye-opening experience, and we are still in the process of seeing how these wines progress. We couldn’t be more excited for the future as we dive deeper into the North Coast.
At Nottingham, we work with vineyard partners that are committed to low yield, high-quality wine-growing to give us the opportunity to create a wine that reflects its origins. We implement fermentation techniques to help bring out the essence of each of these sights, and when necessary age our wines in Oak barrels that elevate a vineyards personality rather than mask it. We by no means consider ourselves “natural winemakers”, but we do utilize some techniques like native yeast and whole cluster red fermentations on wines that we think these techniques bring value. Our wines are fermented and aged in Micro-lots. Each vintage we assemble our wines starting with Supremacy, our flagship Bordeaux Style Red Blend.
Of all of our accomplishments at Nottingham Cellars, the team I am surrounded by every day is the thing I am most proud of. I started the program at Nottingham Cellars learning from the better winemakers in Livermore Valley that were kind enough to give guidance and mentor me early on. In 2013, Alex Wolfe joined our team as a harvest intern and ended up staying on full time to work in both production and marketing. In 2018, NC had the opportunity to add Craig Ploof, one of the most talented winemakers in the region to manage the day to day winery operations and to bring a new dynamic to our winemaking program. The three of us all bring different strengths and perspectives to the team and we recognize the value that each of us brings as individuals. We believe that we are capable of producing wines that are as good as anywhere in the world.
